0. The Fool: The Fool represents new beginnings. If you receive this card, it is a sign that you should take chances and try something new. Be spontaneous, take risks and act on impulse. Trust that everything will be ok.

1. The Magician: This card indicates the start of a new cycle in life. This is a time to use your talents (especially if these include writing or speaking) and focus on your goals.

2. The High Priestess: The Priestess urges us to look beyond the obvious to what is hidden or obscure. This card often signifies mystical or pshychic powers… either in yourself or in a woman in your life. The Priestess urges you to rely on your instincts and be open to possibilities.

3. The Empress: This card is about fertility. Depending on your situation, it could mean pregnancy, or the “birth” of a new idea or enterprise. The Empress can also represent your mother or a mothering figure in your life.

4. The Emperor: The Emperor is an authoritative figure… often representing your father or another man in your life. The Emperor is definitely in charge of his own destiny. He is organized, in control, and he knows where he is going in life.

4. The Hierophant (or High Priest): If you get this card, you are probably either a student (or learning something new in life) or you are a teacher or mentor. This card is all about gaining knowledge.

5. The Lovers: Obviously, this card is about emotional relationships… usually between two romantic partners. However, if you are not involved in a romantic relationship, it could also signify a successful business partnership or friendship. Often this card means that you have reached a crossroad in your relationship and you have a decision to make.

6. The Chariot: When I see this card I remember old movies with chariot races. Imagine, the riders urging their horses to go faster and faster. That’s pretty much what this card means. The Chariot tells you that you will be victorious. You will remain focused on your goals and have the will-power to win the race.

8. Strength: This card is clearly an indication of physical or emotional strength. It says that you have the power to defeat your enemies, and to survive whatever life throws at you.

9. The Hermit: The hermit tells you that it is time to take a break. You need to find some where you won’t be distracted, so that you can focus inward and look for the answers to whatever is bothering you.

10. Wheel of Fortune: This card proves that life is always changing! Imagine a huge wheel which is always turning. This wheel symbolizes your life. When you get the Wheel of Fortune card it tells you that the wheel is about to rotate again, and your life will change. You may feel like life is speeding up, but if you stand back and look at things from a different perspective you will see the answers to your problems.

11. Justice: Often this card has to do with legal affairs of some sort, but it can also signify any kind of judgment or decision. The Justice card tells you that these decisions or judgments will go your way. You may receive the Justice card if you are about to sign a contract (which would be a good sign) or if you need to create harmony or balance in your life.

12. The Hanged Man: Although the Hanged Man may bring to mind gruesome pictures of medieval executions, this is really not a negative card. The Hanged Man is simply “hanging out”… just relaxing, going with the flow of life. And he wants you to do the same thing. If you get this card, it means that you need to slow down, be patient and give up control.

13. Death: No, this card does NOT mean that you are going to die! The Death card rarely has anything to do with physical death. Instead, it usually means that you need to let go of something. Imagine that you are in a garden, filled with dying plants. If you cut away the old, dead leaves, the new plants can grow. That is what you need to do… cut away the dead things in your life and see what grows. Get rid of the old and make way for the new.

14. Temperance: When you receive this card, it usually indicates that you need to create balance in your life. Compromise, moderation and cooperation are key elements of the Temperance card.

15. The Devil: This card means that you are being tempted by forces which you can’t control. You may caught in an unhealthy situation, or addicted to something. Your addictions or obsessions may also be causing you to feel sad or depressed.

16. The Tower: The Tower picture on one of my tarot decks is eerily like the images of the Twin Towers from September 11. Something has crashed into the tower, making it topple, while people and debris fall from above. But strangely, this is not a negative card. It does mean sudden and often painful change. But this change is for the better. So if you get this card, you will probably go through some sort of disruption in your life. However it will all turn out for the best in the end, and you will come through it a better and stronger person.

17. The Star: This is a very positive card. It indicates that you will have success and good fortune. If you receive this card, be assured that you can follow your dreams. Have faith in the future and trust in yourself.

18. The Moon: If you get this card you should be careful. Things are not what they seem. You may be confused about a situation, or you might not understand everything. It is very important to listen to your own intuition at this time.

19. The Sun: If you get this card, the Sun is shining on you! Everything you do will turn out well. You will experience good health, joy and success.

20. Judgment: If your receive this card, you probably either have a decision to make or somebody is making a judgment about you. If you are the one making a decision, you need to weigh your choices carefully. This is a time to make a fresh start and let go of your guilt. If somebody is judging you, the decision will be fair.

21. The World: The last of the Major Arcania cards is often considered to be the best card of the deck. If you get this card you will experience wholeness and balance in your life. You will realize your goals and experience peace of mind.
